Thirty years ago, Giuseppe (Joe) and Maria Ruscigno opened a small shop in the heart of Little Italy in the Bronx in New York. Ten years later, they moved Joe’s Italian Deli into its present location, which is three times larger than the original store but still in the Arthur Avenue district. Along with their sons Anthony and Nick they have continued the culinary traditions of Italy, passed down to them from previous generations.
The store features exceptional imported Italian items like pastas, oils, cheese, pastries, meats and fresh, homemade food that showcases the Southern Italy recipes that Joe and Maria learned from their parents. We treat our customers like family and want you to feel at home in our deli. We make shopping at our store, whether in person or online, an experience. Since we don’t want you to buy something you don’t like, when you visit us in person we offer you lots of samples. So many, in fact, that you will leave feeling full.
While the original purpose of our store was to serve its traditional Italian neighborhood, times have changed and so have we. In the early part of the 20th century, Italians immigrated to this area for work. Now our neighborhood is home to people from other countries such as Mexico and Albania. We are pleased to be able to offer unique products to meet the needs of these different cultures.
And even though we’ve changed with the times to welcome new traditions, the one thing we haven’t changed is our famous homemade fresh mozzarella. Joe has been making this renowned cheese since he was 19 years old but we never get tired of hearing customers tell us that it’s the best mozzarella they’ve ever eaten.
We are open seven days a week to serve our loyal customers the finest Italian products at the most reasonable prices. Everything in our store is made fresh everyday. We start cooking early in the morning so by lunchtime the food is hot and fresh.
If you’re looking to venture into traditional Italian recipes and into new tastes, then you have found the perfect store. Take your time and browse our shop whether in person or online. We want you to stay a while and to feel comfortable asking us questions. We want you to feel like you’re a member of the family.
